| Diamond Color
Many people are inexplicably
drawn to the depth and beauty of a colorless diamond.
Exemplifying purity, it is the perfect symbol for an
external union.
Although, most people think
if a diamond as being white or colorless it is actually
the exception rather than the rule. Color to one degree
or another occurs in almost every diamond nature creates.
It happens as a result of either variations in the crystalline
structure of the stone or the presence of trace amounts
of other elements in the composition of the diamond.
Small amounts of nitrogen will result in one of the
more common and yet interesting color variation of yellow.
Large amounts of multiple elements causes many of natures
creations to take on a less attractive brown or gray
coloration. Some other very rare, and very expensive,
colors are blue, red, pink and green.
The image to the right illustrates
the standard *G.I.A. scale for color. Please, note that
the very top of the scale actually begins with "D".
It actually goes all the way to "Z" as it
overlaps a separate scale that deals with the fancy
colors mentioned above.
