Cut, simply put, is the single
biggest factor that effects the brilliance of your diamond.
It is so much more than just the shape. A poor cut can
make a diamond with otherwise exceptional color and
clarity look flat and lifeless.
On
the other hand, a great cut will make a diamond of average
quality look like a million dollars.
The image
to the left illustrates the basic concept of how a clear
stone handles light.
Contrary
to what one might think there is not one perfect combination
of measurements, angles, and
percentages that
defines the ideal proportions for every shape of diamond.
The widely accepted set of dimensions for the round
brilliant cut work very well with that shape but same
formula cannot be effectively applied to every other
cut.
The best decision can only be made
by actually examining each diamond up cloe and personally
and by comparing them side by side in different lighting
conditions.
